Available Programs
These are by no means everything that's available. These are only programs that I've
used and are familiar with. There are many, many more programs available, so don't be
afraid to check around and try different ones. If you're using a certain software, please
let me know what it is and give me a brief review of why you like it. I'll be glad to add it!
Some available programs are:
Extreme Basic:
Paint: This is as basic as it gets. This program comes with Windows (so almost everyone
has it), but it is very limited. Only reads .bmp files and has some minor paint and
erase tools.
Intermediate:
There are many programs available that are easy to get copies of. Many computers, printers,
and scanners provide free software with their purchase. These often include a
wide variety of image manipulation software. You can also find demo versions of
programs at websites like Download.com that will work fine, but usually have some
portion disabled, or a limited number of days you can use it.
With these programs you can do some very nice pictures. But as you use them, you'll
find yourself wishing there were easier ways to achieve certain things. There are
easier ways, and that's why people pay money for the next level of programs.
Advanced:
Don't let the term "advanced" fool you. These programs are fairly easy to use, they just
have many more tools available, and take time to learn to use them.
Adobe Photoshop: Probably the most popular software available at this level. With its easy
learning curve, and vast array of add-on softwares, it's definitely a good choice.
The price may scare some people, but due to its popularity, there are many copies
around to "borrow."
Corel Photo-paint: Many people hate this program because of some memory problems it has,
but it's my personal preference. Only because it's what I'm used to using. It's
much like Adobe on the surface, but different in many ways. Again, it's pricey, but
common enough to be accessible.
Very Advanced:
I'm sure there are some super high grade programs out there that make this stuff easy,
but I've never used them, so I don't know what they are! Not to mention, they'd
cost a small fortune.
